TFCD or "Time for CD" is an industry standard wereby both the model and the photographer give eachother their time for free, in exchange for all the images on CD for their respective portfolios. Copyright is shared.

From a model's point of view the reasons to work for free may be numerous. You may want a particular type of print for your book, you might just want to try out a few poses and looks or you might wish to gain experience. Whatever the reason, it can be a good way of getting pictures for free.

From my perspective, i occassionaly offer my services for free if i need portfolio shots, want to test out new lighting scenarios or want to evaluate a model before offering her paid work.

As a professional photographer i do have the need for models for paid commercial shoots and will only ever recommend someone i have worked with.
